RiAS BAIXAS RALLY PREVIEW
The frantic month of May for the Subaru Rally Team Spain and KRS ends this weekend with their participation in the Rias Baixas Rally, the fourth event of the 2009 Spanish Tarmac Rally Championship. It will be the third consecutive rally in as many weeks for the Subaru Espana works team which, from Friday, faces the first Galician date of the 2009 schedule with maximum anticipation, following the brilliant victory of the Impreza Prodrive of Enrique Garcia Ojeda and Jordi Barrabes in the previous rally of the tarmac series, the Cantabria Infinita, run fifteen days ago.
The victory of the current champion of Spain in the Cantabrian rally was an historical milestone for Subaru when the Impreza prepared by KRS obtained the first win on tarmac for the latest rally model of the Japanese brand. A magnificent result that was as a direct consequence of the work done by the driver and team from the beginning of season, and that in the Rias Baixas will enter a new stage.
The two Impreza Prodrives of the Subaru Rally Team Spain will face in the rally based near Vigo the usual opposition from the Spanish Championship events, reinforced by the presence of home teams with a very good level of competitiveness. For the Cantabrian Enrique Garcia Ojeda, who comes to Vigo classified third overall in the series, the 'Rias' will mean a new challenge in his fight to retain the title he won in 2008, whereas for Mario Ceballos the Galician rally will be one more new step in his progression in the Championship of Spain where he competes for the first time this year.
The 45th edition of the Rallye Rias Baixas presents as its main innovation the running, on Friday night, of an urban stage in the surrounding areas of Samil's beach, which will serve as a spectacular appetizer for an event which will be run throughout Saturday, with ten special stages that total 165.41 timed kilometres.
