SUBARU AND KRS MAKE HISTORY ON TARMAC

There was great success for the Subaru Rally Team Spain in the Rally Cantabria Infinita, the third event of the Spanish Tarmac Rally Championship when Enrique Garcia-Ojeda and Jordi Barrabes in the Subaru Impreza Prodrive prepared by KRS took a spectacular victory.

Ojeda's victory was comprehensive with the current Champion of Spain totally dominating throughout a rally that was been run under changeable weather conditions, with dry roads in the early stages, fog in the last section of the morning and increasingly heavy rain during the afternoon.

However whether wet or dry the Cantabrian driver and the Subaru showed complete superiority over his rivals, leading from the start after beginning the event with two fastest times in the first two stages, which meant that at the end of the initial section, Ojeda already had almost half a minute lead over his nearest competitor, the Mitsubishi EVO X driven by Xevi Pons.

The second run through the two initial stages saw Ojeda take two more fastest times which saw him continue to improve his advantage as the sky increasingly darkened with the first drops of rain on the second run of San Pedro del Romeral that also saw thick fog.

The most difficult moment of the rally was on the third section, when the rain surprised all those fighting for the top positions as they were all equipped with slicks as they had left the service park at Torrelavega before it began to rain. Nevertheless Ojeda and Barrabes managed to keep the lead despite the lack of grip and they completed their outstanding performance in the last two stages of the day, run with rain tyres over the increasingly wet roads.

At the end of the rally the driver of the Subaru Rally Team Spain won by a margin of nearly 50 seconds, demonstrating that the work done by KRS on the Impreza Prodrive to make it as competitive on tarmac as it already is on gravel is already giving excellent results.

The second car of the Subaru España works team, driven by Mario Ceballos, with Borja Rozada as co-driver, also completed the event, though an unfortunate puncture at the beginning of the rally left them without any chance to shine, finishing in 17th position.

Ojeda's win is the first victory of the Impreza Prodrive on tarmac and the second in four rallies for the Subaru Rally Team Spain, with their previous victory on gravel for Brice Tirabassi on the Rally of Palma del Rio. These first two wins are very pleasing to all the sections of KRS Motor Events, who are obtaining some extraordinary results with the Impreza of the Subaru España works team.

Drivers comments:

Enrique Garcia Ojeda: "I am very satisfied, for myself and for the whole team. We are a group of people working hard together, already for several months, and today the target has been reached, or at least the first important step of this project: winning a rally overall and it demonstrated that the technical team of KRS Motor Events has achieved a great level. We have managed to improve the car on tarmac and I'm very happy with this first win."

Mario Ceballos: "We have had a difficult rally because of the puncture in the first section which left us a bit down and then we haven't made the right tyre choice in the evening so then we just went on running to the finish."
