RALLYING IN THE MOUNTAINS

Stouffville (Ontario), May 25, 2005.- The second round of the 2005 Canadian Rally Championship -- the Rocky Mountain Rally -- will begin this Friday in Calgary, Alberta. After a three-month break, the Canadian rally community is delighted to return in action in Western Canada. The break served to carefully prepared the cars for what is known to be a difficult and challenging event.

Toronto, Ontario's Peter Thomson - the winner of the opening round, the Perce-Neige Rally held in Quebec - looks forward to repeat his winning performance. Driving a Group N Subaru Impreza WRX, Thomson will be co-driven by Rod Hendricksen of New Jersey. If he wins this weekend, it would be a second career victory for Thomson.

But things will not be simple for Thomson as Antoine L'Estage and Yanick Napert of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec are also aiming at the overall victory aboard their Hyundai Tiburon 4WD, a car prepared and tuned by the legendary rally ace John Buffum. L'Estage and Napert -- who won the Tall Pines Rally at the end of last year -- appear amongst the favourites to clinch the Canadian title this season.

Other competitors to watch carefully include American Randy Zimmer (Subaru Impreza), Quebec's Jon Nichols (VW Golf GTi) and the highly promising Norm LeBlanc of British Columbia, driving a Subaru Impreza WRX.

Five-time Canadian rally champions Frank and Dan Sprongl of Georgetown, Ontario will contest their second rally behind the wheel of their Suzuki Swift+ in the Production category. In total, close to 40 teams will take the stat of the event.

The 2005 Rocky Mountain Rally, presented by Makita, will begin at noon this Friday. Then, the fans will be able to watch some timed stages in Calgary's Blackfoot Motorcycle Park from 6 to 9 p.m. The following day, the competitors will face the gruelling roads of the Rocky Mountains in the region of Porcupine Hills. The finish is scheduled for 6 p.m., Saturday May 28. Timing and scoring will be available on www.rallyscoring.com.
