Subaru Rally Team USA At Minnesota's Ojibwe Forests Rally
Just three weeks after sweeping all three medals at the first ever X Games Rally, Subaru Rally Team USA is back in action in Northern Minnesota this weekend, at the Ojibwe Forest Rally. The rally, held around the scenic lake and vacation area of Bemidji, Minnesota is Round 6 of the 2006 Rally America National Championship. The rally kicks off Friday afternoon (August 25), and concludes late in the evening on Saturday, August 26.
The Ojibwe Forest Rally features over 100 miles of challenging gravel roads that snake their way through Minnesota's lake region. A majority of the event takes place in the dark, on Friday and Saturday evening while the flowing nature of the roads makes it a favorite among rally drivers. This rally marks a prime opportunity for SRTUSA lead driver Travis Pastrana to extend his lead in the Rally America National Championship while his teammate Ken Block can secure 2nd Overall in the Championship standings with a strong result here. Block is currently tied for 2nd Overall in the Rally America National Championship overall standings. The teammates will each drive equally prepared BFGoodrich Tires shod 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally cars. These new Vermont SportsCar prepared rally cars made their debut at the ESPN X Games where they finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd Overall.
"We finished 3rd Overall here last year, and I really enjoyed the roads," remarked Pastrana. "We are leading the Rally America Championship and are coming off a perfect result at the X Games so we need a good result here at Ojibwe to keep this positive momentum going!"
The 22 year old Pastrana has had a busy August: First at the X Games he took home a Gold medal in rally car racing, a Gold in Freestyle MotoX, and a Gold in Best Trick for landing the first ever double back flip in competition. Then it was knee surgery, an appearance on the Jay Leno show, and a big Freestyle MX victory at the Portland, Oregon round of the Dew Action Sports Tour last weekend. After the Ojibwe Forests Rally, Pastrana will head to New York for an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman.
