His success at the wheel of the Peugeot 206 WRC serve as proof of his admirable qualities as a rally driver.
The Team representing Peugeot in Portuguese events will run at Rali Casino de Espinho, its 63rd Portuguese participation. It counts with 27 absolute wins, and 50 podium finishes, four Portuguese Drivers Championship titles, a few Co-driver championship titles and two Constructors championship, but the team will not stop at this, it wants to increase its results and will battle until the end of the season to do so.
Champ Miguel Campos aims for max score in Espinho
With 29 years of age, the pro rally driver, Miguel Campos has had an early crowning of his very first Absolute Drivers Championship Title with the powerful Peugeot 206 WRC of the Peugeot Total Silver Team SG. One year after his first win in a Portuguese rally event, young Campos and his co-driver, Carlos Magalhaes aim to repeat last years result (1st) in the Rali Casino de Espinho, to be run on the 11th and 12th of October. Miguel Campos will try to contribute positively for the claim of the Constructors title in honor of Peugeot, meanwhile eventually celebrating his: "50th rally without withdraws". In this eventuality, Campos will go down in the history of Portuguese motorsports as the most consistent driver till the date. Miguel Campos also counts with podium positions in the last 15 events of the Portuguese Championship, of which he won 6, proving his increasing level of success.
"The Rali Casino de Espinho has a great importance to me, since it was in this very event in 2001 that I won my first Portuguese championship rally. At the time, I had 3 other WRC challenging me, transforming the rally into an interesting and competitive run. This year, I would enjoy having as much fun as well has making sure the public are well entertained" recalled the Portuguese driver, winning 9 out of 12 SS in last years edition, totally dominating the rally and ending with a 2 minute advantage.
"Much like what happens in the World Rally Championship, Peugeot also dominated in a very clear cut form most of the seven events until now disputed", pointed out Team Manager, Carlos Barros, referring to the statistics, in which Peugeot is clearly ahead. Of the 106 SS run since the beginning of the championship, the Peugeot 206 WRC were fastest for 80 times, followed by Subaru (14) and tied with 6 wins each, stand Ford and Toyota.
"Both Miguel and Carlos took advantage of the Peugeot 206 WRC to be fastest in 59 SS's over a total of 657,77 Km, representing a 62,77%" proudly boasted Team Manager of the Peugeot Total Silver Team SG. "We must guarantee 10 more points to be on the safe side for the last two events of the Portuguese Championship. We are so close to granting the Constructors title, that with a good result from Bruno Magalhaes or a fault from our rivals, we will be able to celebrate the title in Espinho", announced Miguel Campos.
