One of Derbyshire's most prominent businessmen, Steve Perez, has been crowned National Historic Rally Champion 2003 after a season long battle to scoop his first national rallying title.

More renowned for winning national business awards than for his rally driving skills Steve, founder and MD of Chesterfield based GBL International, producers of VK Vodka Kick, took the title following a season long campaign against the very best in the UK. Driving in a 1967 Porsche 911 Steve, aided by co-driver and fellow Derbyshire man Jonty Bolsover, dominated the series from the very beginning winning 5 of their 6 qualifying events.

Steve now shifts his attention to the Rally of Great Britain, the final round of the World Rally Championships, which takes place from the 6-9 November in Cardiff. Here Steve will be driving one of Colin McRae's WRC Ford Focuses against the likes of Richard Burns, McRae and Carlos Sainz in a bid to improve upon his 37th place finish in 2003.

Commenting Steve said; "Rallying has always been a big passion of mine and thanks to the success of GBL International I have been able to devote more of my time than ever before to it. I am delighted to have won this, my first national title and it sets me up perfectly for a good drive in the final round of the World Rally Championships in just over two weeks time."
