5th round of the 2010 Canadian Rally Championship
L'Estage wins a dust bowl and leads the championship

Merritt, British-Columbia, October 4th, 2010 -- The 5th round of the Canadian Rally Championship took place last weekend out of Merritt, British Columbia. The competition looked more like a summer event with a difficulty factor, since rally cars left a thick blanket of dust behind. With a fifth win in their last six events, Antoine L'Estage and codriver Nathalie Richard from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC charged all day in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution to receive the chequered flag and take the lead in the standings for the first time this year. It was their fourth victory in the BC round. The Québec team is already crowned Rally America and North American championships and took the bronze in the X-Games in Los Angeles. At one point, organisers had to start the cars three minutes apart because the dust would not clear up.

Jan and Jody Zedril from Winnipeg kept a steady pace as usual in their production Lancer to earn a deserving 8th place overall and lock another 2 wheel drive and Class 2 championship. The brother pair has dominated these categories over the last three seasons. They also won an unusual trophy in Merritt, the PIAA Ecochallenge, awarded to the team that performs best with the least amount of fuel. Finally, the Polish team from Calgary, Zebe Szewczyk and Tomasz Karzynski, were sidelined at the half way mark in their class 5 Lancer Ralliart.

"A weekend with great performances from our Mitsubishi team leaders who earn championships or get closer to more titles with Mitsubishi vehicles and strong performances on the road", said Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada. (MMSC). "The 2010 will draw to a close with the last event in November and we hope they are as successful in this round."

Tall Pines Rally : season finale

The last and decisive round of the 2010 calendar will take place in Bancroft, Ontario in November with the Tall Pines Rally, a classic that has been the season finale for decades. Tall Pines has a reputation of being a winter event with no snow banks (!) and the slightest error can wipe a team out of the competition. It is an exhausting one day event that starts early in the morning and finishes late at night, making the road surfaces a continual challenge and tire choice critical. L'Estage and Richard lead by two points the Subaru team of defending champions Patrick Richard and Alan Ockwell. A victory is worth 22 points, second place 17.
