Possum Bourne stayed out of trouble, apart from one spin on the day's penultimate stage, to rise from ninth to fifth at the end of the first Leg. "It's become a rally of survival in these conditions," said Bourne. "We had a mixed day although it's not been too bad overall."
The triple Australian Champion plans another no thrills day on the stages around Maungaturoto tomorrow. Disappointment for Michael Guest however, the Group N driver retired after SS9 after badly damaging his Impreza WRX and loosing over half an hour struggling through the stage.
Subaru Australia's Cody Crocker currently lies in eighth position in Group N, while Simon Evans trails the Hyundai pair of Alister McRae and Kenneth Eriksson in Formula 2.
