5th SEPTEMBER 1999 Round 12 Red Mills Motorsport Ireland National Rally Championship for Vard Trophy Round 4 Top Part West Coast Challenge
The rally will start at 11.00am and cover three stages at Derrygoolin, Moyglass, and An Bothar Dubh three times. Headquarters is the Shannon Oaks Hotel, Portumna. The event takes place on September 5th next. The rally forms Round 12 Red Mills Motorsport Ireland National Rally Championship and Round 4 Top Part West Coast Challenge, and Ford Ka Challenge.
The Red Mills Motorsport Ireland National Rally Championship is wide open following the failure of Niall Maguire to finish in the previous round. He had not planned to compete in Galway where is only on the reserve list (at 261, and unlikely to get a start!) Niall has 145 points after seven - should he win Donegal he will have 166 - should he fail to finish Donegal or Skibberreen the Barrable potential of 154 is a factor.
Mathematically David Armstrong, currently second and seeded no. 3 on September 5th, cannot score higher than 141. However, the 'dark horse' is former racing driver Michael Barrable, seeded No. 7, the Dublin Fiat dealer who rallies a Celica GT4. He has done six rounds, but could improve his 91 points by three wins, 63, and has thus a potential of 154 to take the championship, dropping one non finish.
All the stuff to make this year's Millennium Autos Galway Summer rally something to keep the crowds on their toes on Sunday, September 5th next around Portumna!
