The Cyprus Automobile Association announced in Nicosia that the Troodos Rally, with points counting towards the Middle East Rally Championship for Drivers and Co-Drivers, will be held in Cyprus between 19th -- 21st October.

"We are expecting to attract a strong international field," said Clerk of the Course Dimitri Ioannou.

"This will be a very exciting rally, and it has created a lot of interest amongst drivers in the region particularly with the points counting towards the regional championship."

The Troodos Rally is run over 14 special stages and a total of 750kilometres. The special stages, run within the Troodos Mountain range, account for 250 kilometres of the event. It will be run in two legs, with foursections. Scrutineering will take place on Friday 19th October, and the rally itself will be staged over Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October.

It will begin in Eletherios Square, close to the ancient Venetian walls of the island's capital, Nicosia, and the finish will be at the same place. The cars will head out from Nicosia to loop around the pine forests of the Troodos range, going as far as Ayios Nicholaos, in the west of the island.

The reconnaissance period for drivers is between Saturday 13th and Wednesday 17th October, and the event itself will feature two service parks, one in the Troodos mountains, and the other in the south coast town of Limassol.

Apart from counting towards the Middle East Rally Championship for Drivers and Co-Drivers, it will also score points towards the Rally Cup for Drivers, and the Cyprus Automobile Association Cyprus Rally Championship.
