Martin Prokop after Rally Estonia: We are ready for Rally Finland

With the main goal to prepare for the Neste Oil Rally Finland Martin Prokop completed the last weekend's Mad-Croc Rally Estonia in his Ford Fiesta S2000. He came back keened for the local super stages and the atmosphere of the rally as well as convinced Czech Ford National Team is well-prepared for the Rally Finland.

The entry list of the Rally Estonia brought a strong competition led by the former manufacturer driver Markko Martin, the 34-year-old, a winner of five world championship rallies, who was competing on last weekend's Mad-Croc Rally Estonia in a 2003-specification Ford Focus RS WRC. However, for Martin Prokop was even more important the participation of Toni Gardemeister, who will make his WRC on Neste Oil Rally Finland later this month, and who drove the identical Ford Fiesta S2000 in the Estonian rally.

Super 2000 World Rally Championship frontrunner Martin Prokop was also using the event's high-speed and smooth gravel stages, to prepare for Finland's WRC qualifier. Until SS 5 Martin Prokop co-driven by Jan Tomanek held the fourth position ahead of the fifth Toni Gardemeister. Unfortunately, after SS 6 they received a time penalty (1:20 min) after they were 8 minutes late into the time control due to the technical problem of their Fiesta. Not to be penalized, they could fight with Toni Gardemeister for the third place in the Rally Estonia. With the penalty the crew of Prokop and Tomanek finished fifth. However, they preferred to get ready for the Rally Finland than the result in the Rally Estonia.

Martin Prokop: "The Rally Estonia was the best training for the Rally Finland. We wanted to get used to the high speeds. We found a few problems in our notes, so we changed it little bit. From some point of view we can be annoyed with the result. We were late in the time control due to solving a technical problem and got a 1:20 min penalty. Not to be penalized, we could fight for the third position. Anyway, we are satisfied. It has been better the problem occurred in Estonia than in Finland. I guess we are well- prepared for the Rally Finland.

The Rally Estonia is a beautiful rally and it met all our expectations. Urmo Aava prepared a great event. Also fans were amazing. I will be glad to come back to Estonia!"

The next outing of Martin Prokop and Jan Tomanek will be the Neste Oil Rally Finland on July 29/31.
