TOYOTA CREW WIN RFS MAGALIES 400 REGIONAL EVENT

The Toyota Hilux crew of Pikkie Labuscagne and Rikus Erasmus won the Northern Regions / Northwest Off Road regional event run in conjunction with the national championship RFS Magalies 400, the final round of the Absa Off Road Championship, over the weekend.

Labuscagne and Erasmus came in ahead of two other Toyota Hilux crews in Malcolm Kock and Wayne Brink and Heinie Strumpher and Johannes Bekker. The Labuscagne/Erasmus combination also took the Class D honours with Kock and Brink leading home Strumpher and Bekker in Class E.

The top five was completed by veteran Wolf-Peter Pfumfei (WPP) and Johan de Klerk and Louis Pretorius in a Zarco Junior. Pfumfei also won Class B with de Klerk and Pretorius taking Class C.

The Class A win went to Werner Link and Audrey Beckley in a Raceco Porsche with Johan van Staden and James Rossouw (BAT) taking Class P. Stratford Voogt and actor Ben Kruger, in a Jeep, took Class F honours with the regional event drawing a large entry of 46 cars.

"It was encouraging to see so many cars entered in the regional race," said Motorsport South Africa Off Road Car Racing Commission president Richard Schilling. "The regional championship is the nursery for the national series, and hopefully some of these competitors will take the step up into the national championship next season.

"Boosting the regional series is high on the commission agenda for next season."
