After 16 years, the organizers of the Eastern Cape's only national rally have learned how to cater for spectators, while treating top rally teams to some of the best forest roads in the country.

To enjoy the rally totally, however, you need to plan your programme and pick vantage points along the route. Spectator guides and maps will be available.

At Longmore, the rally centre on Saturday, direction boards have been erected to guide motorsport enthusiasts to the various special stages.

The Volkswagen Rally begins on Friday, when scrutineering takes place at Market Square Volkswagen in Uitenhage from 09h00 to 13h00. The first cars leave at 13h45 for Superstage 1.

Special stages 3 and 4 take place at Longmore, which is on the R331 to Hankey and signposted well. Stage 5 takes place in Uitenhage again, this time in the centre of town.

From there, the teams will move to North End in Port Elizabeth, before the final Day One stage at Kings Beach.

On the Saturday, the rally crews have an early start and head for the Longmore forest station again. There service crews and support teams will operate from the forest station.

Refreshments will be sold by the local community and signposts will give directions to the various forest stages.

Please remember to switch on headlights while driving here. Open fires are prohibited and smokers must please extinguish cigarettes in ashtrays or empty cans.

Later in the day, the rally will return to Port Elizabeth with a final special stage at Kings Beach.

A record entry of 48 top rally teams have entered the Volkswagen Rally this year.
