Horsey heads home for penultimate rally
27 year old Peter Horsey heads home to Mombasa for his local rally, the penultimate round of the 2010 Kenyan National Rally Championship. Peter, the 2010 African Pirelli Star Driver, will team up with younger brother Alex in a two car team, backed by Civicon Transport, for the Kilifi based rally.
The KCB Amana Banking Rally with be Peter's fourth rally in five weeks. After contesting the Kajiado Rally near Nairobi in mid September Peter then flew to the UK to contest the International Rally of Yorkshire before heading to France for the fifth of his six World Rally Championship events a week later. Although Peter has not experienced the best of luck on these three events, his pace has been promising and the talented youngster feels that he has learnt a lot in recent month.
Being exposed to new rallies and especially the preparation work involved in competing on a World Rally Championship event has helped me mature as a driver! My pacenote system has improved a lot this year and I'm happy with my stage times now. Although the Coast Rally is using new roads this could play to my advantage as long as my recce goes well.
One concern for Peter is that he could be seeded first on the road for the Kilifi based event. This could be a disadvantage as not only will he be "road sweeping" but there is always the risk of meeting a non competing vehicle or unsuspecting local villagers on the road!
The rally will start from the KCB Branch in Kilifi on Saturday 16 October at 15:00. The first car is expected at the finish, at Ganze Boys Secondary School, at approximately 15:30 on Sunday afternoon.
