Killarney and District Motorclub are delighted to announce details of the 2002 Killarney Historic Stages Rally. After a year's break, Ireland's only rally entirely run for historic rally cars will return on its usual date of Sunday the 1st December.
"There has been a lot of enquiries to the club over the past few months regarding the rally," said new Clerk of the Course Tim Clifford. "We are now delighted to have everything in place and be able to announce that regulations will be available at the end of October."
Historic (pre '69) and Post Historic ('pre 74) cars will again be given priority for entries. These will be seeded together at the head of the field, with the overall winner being the fastest historic car. The remaining places will be filled by classic (Pre'79 cars). Low speed reece of the stages will be allowed on the Saturday of the event.
Headquarters for the 2002 rally will be the Dromhall Hotel, Muckross Rd, Killarney. Website: www.dromhall.com. The hotel offers the comfort and service one associates with a first class hotel, while retaining the friendliness and welcome of a family run hotel.
The 2002 Killarney Historic Rally will again be run over some of the best tarmac stages to be found anywhere, with over 100 classic stage miles to be rallied. Deputy Clerk of the course Padraig Hickey adds: "We are extremely lucky in the Killarney area that we have such a large number of classic stages to pick from, and I have no doubt that competitors will be delighted with the route chosen for the 2002 event."
Since the event's inception in 1996, the rally has attracted crews and cars from Ireland & the UK, mainland Europe, Africa and America. Derry based Dessie Nutt driving a Porsche 911 is the man everyone will have to beat on the rally having taken 4 of the 5 rallies run to date, although Drexel Gillespie and his Ford Cortina came very close to breaking the Porsche domination in 2000!
Regulations for the 2002 Killarney Historic Stages Rally will be posted out at the end of October for the December 1st rally. Requests for regulations and any other information can be made to the Clerk of the Course & Event Secretary:
