Interwetten Racing Team completes problem-free recce of "Rally Russia"

Rain digs out the gravel roads, bedrock makes the cours extremely hard

About 24 hours prior to the start of the "Rally Russia" around Vyborg (approx. 150 kilometres west of St. Petersburg) Franz Wittmann and Bernhard Ettel have inspected most of the special stages. And the first impression affirms the premonitions of the Interwetten Racing Team. The fourth run of Franz Wittmann with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX in the IRC might actually pose the biggest challenge so far.

"It is going to be an extremly speedy rally. The average at one special stage will be at over 120 km/h. Not to mention that it will be on gravel where the bedrock rises up to ten to 20 centimetres. The only thing to do in this case is to evade it and leave the ideal line. Or else a tyre damage and therefore retirement are inevitable. Thus not the choice of the right tyre but the careful handling of the material will be the key to success. Initially we had planned a full attack but now I think that we have to act cleverly and hope to find the right mixture between attack and tactics as fast as possible", explains Franz Wittmann

Prior to the start of the rally on Thursday (July 9) at 19.30 (local time), the shakedown will already take place on Wednesday at 19.00.
