Franz Wittmann/ Bernhard Ettel are perfectly prepared for the "SATA Azores Rally"
Successful testing by the Interwetten Racing Team at shakedown of their second IRC run
Today Franz Wittmann/Bernhard Ettel started into the "SATA Auores Rally" with successful testing at the shakedown. The Interwetten-driver completed the 3 kilometres long stage, about 10 kilometres from the capital Porto Delgado, five times overall.
"It was merely a functional test to me and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX worked smoothly. At the beginning of the shakedown we used old tyres - we only changed to new ones nearing the end of the shakedown. We also tried out several settings at the set-up of the car. The conditions on the Azores differ rather a lot compared to Austria.
The gravel is much sandier and the surface conditions become deeper soon when driving over the course more often which makes the car tend to ground. Additionally one often drives through narrow passes which makes it impossible to see the next turn. That is why exact and detailed pace notes are so important.
I will therefore start into the rally rather cautiously and try to be on the safe side in the beginning", explains Franz Wittmann.
The "44th Sata Rallye Acores" will commence on May 7 at 17.30 in Ponta Delgada. Until the crossing of the finishing line on May 9 at 20.05, 18 special stages with a length of 229,86 kilometres are scheduled. The two super stages on Thursday (7.5.) at 18.20 and on Saturday (9.5.) at 14.52 will be the highlights of the rally (all times are local times).
