With the overall and all Group A championship issues settled, the focus switches to the Group N title fights in this year's Stannic Rally Championship -- with the overall crown and the three class titles all to be settled on the Stannic Gauteng Rally on November 13 and 14.

The Rally of South Africa saw VW Motorsport pair Jan Habig and Doug Judd clinch the overall South African championship and the Class A8 championship. Also settled were the Class A7 championship and the Class A6 championship.

In Class A7 defending champions Tjaart van der Walt and Cindi Harding, the Rieks Towing VW Golf, put Barry Grobbelaar/Mike Burrows (Team Total VW Golf) and Tony Ball/Martie Olivier (Bulwer Park VW Golf) out of the running. On the Class A6 front Jean-Pierre Damseaux and Pierre Arries dethroned Hergen Fekken and Dave Lewkowicz (Dunair Toyota Corolla) with a third non finish in a row scuppering the 1998 champions.

Now all the interest is no the Group N battles and there are some interesting battles looming on the Stannic Gauteng Rally. As far as the overall title is concerned Hannes Grobler and Nic Hadden (Total Bridgestone Nissan Sentra) are now under serious pressure after a disappointing result on the Rally of South Africa.

Grobler, the defending drivers champion, and Hadden lead Cliff Blackman/Johan Klaasen (Team Total Nissan Sentra) and Deans Sanders/Graham Hooper (Team Total Toyota Corolla) who are tied for second place, by 14 points. Grobler and Hadden, however, have to drop one result and that narrows the gap to just seven points.

In Class N3 the same situation applies. The gap between Grobler/Hadden and the Blackman/Klaasen is also just seven points, and both championship issues go to the wire.

Class N2 leaders Sanders and Hooper are now also under sever pressure from Diffie Marais and Danie de Waal, in another Toyota Corolla, following the Cape pair's class win on the rally of South Africa. The gap between the two crews is now 10 points, and with both able to drop non finishes from their overall tallies, this fight will also go to the wire.

Down in Class N1 the only drivers title contenders are Mike Houghton (Toy Toy Used Spares Toyota Tazz), the current leader, and defending champion Rodney Visagie in the Team Total Toyota Tazz. Five points separate the pair but Houghton, who has a 100 percent finish record this season, has to drop one score and that brings the gap down to two points.

On the co-drivers side the boot is on the other foot. Bryn Doherty, who has sat alongside Houghton all season, missed the Rally of South Africa and now trails Cimma by five points.
