33rd Bulgaria Rally Albena (ERC Coef. 20) - May 24, 25 & 26th 2002
Dominant win for Kuzaj and Future World !
Leading from SS1 to SS24, Leszek Kuzaj and Erwin Mombaerts took a dominant win on the Bulgaria Rally Albena, round four of the Coef. 20 European Rally Championship. Their high-performing Toyota Corolla WRC tuned by Belgian squad Future World finished nearly one minute ahead of second placed Kulig (Focus WRC) - new ERC leader - with Russian Lesnikov (Impreza 2001 WRC) third.
Kuzaj set the pace on day 1, winning five out of the six special stages that drivers have to run without any service. Opponent Kulig lost 30" when he spun 600 m after starting SS1. Beginning of day 2, the Future World driver extended his leadership using new brake pads. In SS8, Warmbold (Corolla WRC) retired because of hydraulic problems and Donchev rolled his 306 Maxi in SS9. At the start of day 3, the advantage of Kuzaj was 2 minutes. Bulgarian champion Iliev (Corolla WRC) was hoping to catch FW Toyota when he badly crashed out in SS20. Kuzaj lost 16" hitting a rock in SS22 but team Future World won an impressive victory as nine WRC cars were registered. Classified fourth, Belgian Bruyneel (Celica GT-Four) stood up to chasing local Zlatkov (Impreza WRC).
-" Leszek made us feeling fear three special stages from the end, smiled Gerard Magniette, team-manager of Belgian team Future World. Friday, he took a perfect start and to have him more confident with the car, we've used new brakes pads for Leg 2. Level of the starting list was high and, after two wins in 2001, team Future World is proud to win again a Coef. 20 ERC meeting. "
Leading La Reunion Island Championship, Future World and Theunissen-Genten are now working to perform such a good result during next Bianchi Rally, round three of the Belgian Rally competition. 33rd Bulgaria Rally Albena was the tenth rally for Future World in 2002 : Belgian squad has collected four wins (40%) and eight podium places (80%).
