New leader in the Sata Rallye Azores; Rui Madeira rises to the lead and Paasonen falls to eighth.
The second day of the Sata Rallye Azores was taken by surprise, witnessing the Fin Paasonen fall from 1st to eighth position, after the three cancelled SS's due to protests from nearby agricultural associations forcing an annulment for safety reasons. Portuguese Ford driver, Rui Madeira took the lead, closely followed by Peugeot's Miguel Campos with a mere 4.9 gap between them.
Rui Madeira 1P (Ford Focus WRC):
"Paasonen's problems benefited me, as well as Miguel Campos's during the morning, anyhow I was not pleased with the result. At some point I had a 15s advantage to Campos, but the notes regarding the last SS's were not very clear and we ended with just 5s over. We'll see how things progress tomorrow"
Miguel Campos 2P (Peugeot 206 WRC):
"I had loads of problems with the clutch. The car slipped a lot during the start and I had to switch off the turbo when in order to star out well. We changed the clutch at the service park, but the problem persisted, although I still managed to recover some time. We will put in a new clutch tomorrow and I hope everything will run smoother"
Armin Kremer 3P (Ford Focus WRC):
"Today we tried to recover some lost time, but it was quite tough. During the morning the car had some under steer, but when we put a new set-up in the rear stabilizer the problem seemed to be solved. The canceling of the three SS's was also prejudicial to my performance, since I lost an opportunity to gain more time. However, this is a tough rallye and anything can happen tomorrow"
Paasonen 8P (Subaru Impreza WRC):
"It was a troublesome day. I went from leadership to 8th with no possibilities of a comeback, due to a crash at the beginning of SS11 and needed to change the right front wheel and consequently lost 7.33m"
Sebastien Lindholm (Subaru Impreza WRC) DNF:
"Since the beginning I had a bad feeling with the engine, and my withdraw only confirmed my concerns. This is my third time in Azores and I have never been able to finish. Hopefully next time luck will be on my side"
