Maintaining positions

With three stages remaining, Vaclav Pech appears to be heading for victory in the 33rd Barum Rally.

After the early drama of Bruno Thiry retiring when he was unable to start his car in Parc Ferme, things have settled down with all the top three drivers protecting their positions. Pech has slightly extended his lead over Miguel Campos to 1min 23.3sec and the Portuguese has in turn increased his advantage over third placed Jan Kopecky to 41.9 seconds.

Drivers Comments

Vaclav Pech -- Ford Focus WRC
"I was naturally sorry that Bruno retired like that. This morning the car has been great and I am pleased that I have maintained my advantage over Campos."

Miguel Campos -- Peugeot 206 WRC
"Now I am driving without to much stress. The second stage today was very tricky--.gravel on top of tarmac and it was very narrow. If Bruno and I were fighting for seconds it would have been very difficult. I would have liked to have won the rally, but now I am driving for second place and the 160 Championship points."

They now have just 3 stages remaining which are repeats of the first three of the day, and the winners podium is at 15.13 hrs.
