May 28th and 29th will see the world debut of the 1.6 litre Daihatsu Charade GTI driven by Formula 2 Champion Brett Middleton.

The Charade 1.6 is not available in Australia but in Japan the engine develops 96kW @ 6000rpm, 144Nm at 4000rpm and does 0-100km in sub 9 seconds!

It will also be West Australian Ross Dunkertons' return to the Australian Rally Circuit in the Mitsubishi Ralliart Australia Lancer RS-E, his first time on the circuit since the Telecom Australia Rally in Sept. 1993. The main objective of Ross is to test out the latest spec Mitsubishi prior to heading to the Asia Pacific rounds later in the year. Ross has been the Asian-Pacific Rally Champion twice in recent years and hopes the new Mitsubishi will propell him into a third Championship win.

The Rally is to be held from Adelaide to Mt Crawford and back to Adelaide overall covering 590km with 185km of competitive stages. The preview of the rally has shown a very wet track. but first reports in showed relatively dusty conditions, with Ross 7 seconds ahead of defending ARC Champion Neal Bates in his Toyota Celica GT-Four.
