BAT Racing, the brainchild of Midrand based designer and constructor Brandon Harcus, has issued a challenge to the rest of the Special Vehicle fraternity competing in the SA Off Road Championship... presented by Absa.

"Catch us if you can" is the challenge that has been issued by Harcus.

"BAT vehicles have qualified on pole on all events run this season, lead all the races at one stage or another, won the Nissan Sugarbelt 400 and picked up a maiden Class B win on the Oven Fresh Biscuits 500," said a confident Harcus.

"Gerald Mundell and Billy Bond took over the Special Vehicle championship lead after finishing a strong third overall on the recent Oven Fresh Biscuits 500 and Clint Gibson and Mike Brown's Class B win on the same event sets the scene for some interesting championship battles in the second half of the season."

The locally built BAT vehicles feature chromoly chassis, A-arm front suspensions and mid-mounted engines coupled to Fortin transaxle gearboxes. The engine of choice for the majority of the Class A BAT entries is the Nissan 3,5 V6 but two vehicles, those of Mark Corbett and Juan Mohr and Bevan Bertholdt and Reghardt Roets are fitted with Audi 4,2 litre V8 power plants.

"Our successes in the SA Off Road Championship... presented by Absa have sparked a lot of interest internationally and we are about to deliver our first order of three vehicles to a prominent European customer who plans to race them in the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies," added Harcus.

"This is a tremendous feather in our cap and due recognition for the quality and performance of the BAT."

Four BAT's have been entered in Class A and two in Class B for the forthcoming Queen Motor Spares Tarka 400, which takes place in the Tarkastad area on August 22 and 23.

Class A entries include Brandon Harcus and Gary Bertholdt, Bevan Bertholdt and Reghardt Roets (Matrix Vehicle Tracking BAT), Danie Marais and Andrew Utterson, Mark Corbett and Juan Mohr (Century Property Developments BAT) and Gerald Mundell and Billy Bond (Prolong BAT).

Class B entries include Clint Gibson and Mike Brown (Praesidium Financial Services BAT) and Ernst Corbett and Warwick Goosen (Century Property Developments BAT).
