Record Mitsubishi brigade to tackle Baie des Chaleurs event
3rd round of the Canadian Rally Championship
Toronto (June 24, 2008) -- A record ten car brigade will represent Mitsubishi of Canada for the next round of the Canadian Rally Championship that will be held this weekend out of the small community of New-Richmond in the Gaspe Peninsula. The 31st edition of the Rallye Baie des Chaleurs will take place over two days and will showcase the largest grid of its history with 52 cars at the start. The Mitsubishi teams will include many Lancer Evolutions as well as Ralliart and production Lancers and will contend directly for the overall and other class victories.
Among the brigade leaders, Andrew Comrie-Picard will steer his EVO 9 RS along with American codriver Marc Goldfarb. 'ACP' is presently leading the Rally America series standings and lies third in Canada. Jon Nichols and Mike Koch will compete in their open class EVO while Zbigniew Szewczyk and Tomasz Karzynski, proud of their podium finish in Calgary, will try to stretch their lead in the two-wheel drive Group 5 class. The only women crew, Jen Horsey and Elise Racette are entered in the P3 class and will vie for class win.
"The fact we have a record 10 cars traveling to Eastern Canada is the proof our rally contingency program is working," said Peter Renz, Director of Marketing of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada. "We know that performance rally is the ultimate test for any car and requires thorough preparation and ongoing maintenance. To participate in the championship events that are staged across the country involves a lot of traveling and we think it is fair to our teams that we help them participate in each round. All of these teams are contenders for the Mitsubishi Cup which will be awarded to the best team at the end of the season."
A string of EVOs
Six more all-wheel drive Lancer Evolutions, ranging from generation IV to VIII, are set to take to the backroads. Rejean, Martin and Simon Losier will each drive a Boisvert Mitsubishi entry and Ontarian Francisco Pereira will join them in a four-car team. Simon finished 4th in Calgary, a career-high. Rookie David Legault, a former Quebec champion, is running for Rookie of the year in 2008. Finally, Mathieu L'Estage who clinched third at the Baie in 2006, is a late entry hoping to take a spot in the Top 5.
"We know that more teams are preparing Mitsubishi cars and before long we will have the new flagship Lancer Evolution GSR and MR entering the championship. We just introduced these models in the last weeks and we are sure they will become the reference in this thrilling discipline," said Renz.
