Arrawarra, the longest stage of the rally, proved to be the pinnacle of the rally with Possum Bourne dropping 3 and a half minutes after a spinning into a bank, breaking a driveshaft and bending a lower control arm. With no pressure on Bates claimed the Heat victory ahead of Ed Ordynski who went on to win the event. "It's amazing really, not only did we finally get the edge on Cody (Crocker) but to have won the event...it's unheard of!" commented Ordynski at the finish.

For Bates the win earned him valuable Drivers and Manufacturers, "Points are points no matter how you earn them and we really need as many as we can get our hands on heading into the final two rounds in Melbourne and Tasmania," stated Bates. Despite Bourne's accident he went on to claim second outright while Stewart Reid finished an outstanding third outright after a steady and consistent weekend.
