Octagon To Manage Subaru Safari Tasmania Rally
Tasmania's Subaru Safari Rally will undergo an exciting management change in 2005, with award winning promoter Octagon Australia announcing its plans to take on the Tasmanian round of the national Globalstar Australian Rally Championship next year.
Octagon Australia is a global sports and event marketing company with offices throughout Australia, including the very successful Tasmanian team which currently owns and promotes Targa Tasmania.
Since taking on Targa Tasmania in 2000, the Octagon Tasmania team led by General Manager Rob McGuire has achieved great things, bringing it into the international motorsport spotlight and also improving the commercial viability of the event.
Chairman of the Australian Rally Commission (ARCom) Garry Connelly welcomes Octagon's involvement in the Globalstar Australian Rally Championship and is sure the organisation will bring a further level of professionalism to the event and the series.
"The Australian Rally Commission is very pleased to welcome Octagon's involvement as the Promoter and Organiser of the Subaru Safari Tasmania.
"We believe the involvement of an international organisation such as Octagon, with proven professionalism and impressive credentials within Australia, will assist us in further raising the profile of the Globalstar Australian Rally Championship, " Connelly said.
The Octagon team brings with it a wealth of experience and will retain valuable support from key officials that have been involved in the event before. McGuire has some ambitious plans for the event and says he is looking forward to becoming involved with the championship.
"Certainly, we'd hope to increase the professionalism of the event from the outset. But our broader goal is that within two years we would like the Subaru Safari Tasmania to be recognised as the best round of the Globalstar Australian Rally Championship," McGuire said.
"Becoming involved in the Subaru Safari increases Octagon's involvement in motorsport in Tasmania. Octagon is already a naming rights sponsor of Tasmanian circuit racing, we run Targa Tasmania which has significant community support and will now be involved in gravel rallying. The Subaru Safari Tasmania adds a welcome dimension to our motorsport portfolio."
Importantly, the event will retain continued sponsorship from Subaru Australia in 2005 and 2006. Subaru's National Marketing Manager Toby O'Bree visited Hobart today to reinforce Subaru's support of the event and acknowledges that Tasmania is a very important market for the car manufacturer.
It is envisaged that the partnership between Octagon, Subaru and the Globalstar Australian Rally Championship will deliver a very impressive result for the event in 2005 and beyond.
The Subaru Safari Tasmania is the third round of the 2005 Globalstar Australian Rally Championship running from July 8-10.
