FOCUS RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP -- THE PHONEIX RISES FROM THE ASHES

Limerick, 18th March 2005:The Ford Focus Rally Championship returns for the 2005 season. The new series will be called the Ford Focus Owners Rally Championship and it is hoped that there will be approximately 8 registered crews to compete on the selected championship events in 2005.

The series originally launched by the Ford Motor Company in 2002 ran initially for 2 successful years before Ford withdrew its support in 2004. The series has been resurrected by the 2002 Ford Ka Rally Champion and ex-Ford Focus Competitor Gerry Keyes from Limerick. Gerry a well known rally car preparation expert and competitor has taken over the reins from Protec Promotions Ltd, to organise, promote and manage the series for the future.

The series will be run along the guidelines originally set down by the Ford Motor Company with the emphasis being placed on drivers ability not budget as all cars will be identical mechanically.

It is hopes that the series will consist of 6 all tarmac events throughout Ireland starting with the Circuit of Kerry and finishing in October with the Cork 20 International Rally.

"It is great to see the series return after a years absence. There is a lot of support for the Focus series and we are all looking forward to a great championship with spirited rivalry" said Championship Director Gerry Keyes.
