Watkins Glen, NY (July 04, 2009) - The Mayor of Watkins Glen returned to his favorite track Saturday, finishing a satisfying fourth in the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT Championship race. Randy and his #1 K-PAX/3R Racing Volvo S60 team dominated Friday morning practice but qualified a disappointing sixth later in the day after having handling problems due to a bad set of tires. Randy came off the standing start in seventh and quickly moved to fifth place. A minor radiator leak sprayed coolant all over the Volvo windshield, making it difficult to see. The veteran pro that Randy is took this as a challenge and actually got faster towards the end of the race and finished fourth. Teammate Andy Pilgrim finished just behind in fifth.

"We had the best handling car in the race! Our handling went south in qualifying but all we did was change tires to fix it. Due to SCCA restrictions, we are down on power, at least compared to the Mustangs, which is frustrating. We are still working on starts and trying to conserve the transmission which still needs more development. The coolant on the windshield made it hard to see but it didn't slow me down much. I actually turned my best laps at the end of the race. I had an enjoyable drive and I am satisfied with fourth. I think that's all the car had."

"I would like to thank Will Moody and Paul Delio for their long hours repairing the transmission after issues in the first practice session. I would also like to thank my personal sponsors Team Janica Racing, WeatherTech, Prairie Hills Motorsport Club, ChaseCam, and saferacer.com for their dedication to my racing career. Our Volvo team keeps improving. We will win yet."

A happy Fourth of July birthday to Randy's former teammate, and this press release writer's father, Peter Schwartzott. The Watkins Glen World Challenge GT race will be broadcast Tuesday, July 22 at 2 PM EST on SPEED. Randy's next SPEED World Challenge GT race will be at Autobahn Country Club, July 26. The next race for the KONI Challenge will be July 18-19 at Barber Motorsports Park.
