SPEED WORLD CHALLENGE ANNOUNCES 2006 UTAH DATE
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Sept. 9, 2005) -- SCCA Pro Racing announced this week that it would travel to the new Miller Motorsports Park, outside of Salt Lake City, for an SCCA SPEED World Challenge event July 14-15, 2006.
The new 511-acre facility is owned by Larry Miller, who also owns the Utah Jazz, and will feature a variety of circuit configurations, including a 4.5-mile track that will host SCCA SPEED GT and Touring Car races in conjunction with an American Le Mans Series race as part of the Utah Grand Prix.
"We're very excited to be a part of the inaugural season at Miller Motorsports Park, which has the promise of being one of the elite facilities in North America," SCCA Pro Racing Vice President and General Manager Mitch Wright said. "It's also a great, untapped market for SPEED World Challenge and road racing in general. We're really looking forward to bringing our recognizable, simple and exciting brand of racing to the Salt Lake City area."
Alan Wilson, of Wilson Motorsport, designed the facility and serves as its general manager. Wilson is world-renowned for his race track design, including Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama and the renovation of Mont Tremblant in Quebec. Wilson was also instrumental in the development of the World Challenge when SPEED Channel became its title sponsor in 1999.
