K-PAX Racing's Volvos Run Second and Fourth in First Practice at Utah
Tooele, UT (October 2, 2010) - The K-PAX Racing Volvos posted two of the four fastest times in Saturday's first practice session for the Toyo Tires World Challenge Utah Grand Prix presented by Bondurant at Miller Motorsports Park. Andy Pilgrim's best time was a 1:59.141 (92.099) in the number 8 K-PAX Volvo S60, which was a about eight tenths of a second behind the 1:58.317 (92.740) posted by Kuno Wittmer in a Dodge Viper. James Sofronas was third in a Porsche 911, and behind him was Randy Pobst, who was fourth fastest in the session in the number 6 Volvo S60, with a quick lap of 1:59.843 (91.559).
Despite the fact that Andy was second quickest in the session, there is still work to be done on the number 8 car heading into Saturday's second practice session. "We're fighting balance, a little bit. We've got oversteer entry and we had a lot of push through the mid-speed, fast-speed stuff, so we're testing set-up but the biggest problem was overheating," Andy said.
"We found out late that the fans weren't working, and then also we found out that even though the water was switched on, it wasn't putting stuff into the radiator. It was actually a bit of a frustrating session because of that," he explained.
"We had some issues on my Volvo to sort out- it wasn't running right at all. I came in and our Mahle guy, Josh, jumped in there with his computer and got that sorted out pretty quick. That little 5-cylinder feels like it's pulling well now. I never saw another car in my class so I don't have a real feeling, but the power must be good if we're running fourth. I'm actually very encouraged by that," Randy said.
Saturday's second practice session will take place for 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., MT.
