Speed Touring Car 2002 Schedule Changed; Miami Dropped, Trois-Rivieres Added

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (February 26, 2002)-SCCA Pro Racing, Ltd. has announced the cancellation of the Grand Prix of the Americas Round (Two) of the 2002 Speed World Challenge Touring Car schedule. The series will replace the event in returning to Le Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres, August 2-4. The 2002 Speed GT Championship schedule remains unchanged, with Round Two scheduled for the Grand Prix of the Americas street race.

"It is unfortunate that the Speed Touring Car Championship will not be going to Miami this year," said Mitch Wright, SCCA Pro Racing Vice President and General Manager. "The promoter simply does not have the paddock space to accommodate the series. We're very grateful to Le Grand Prix Trois-Rivieres for extending an invitation for the Touring Cars to join the Speed GT Championship, the ALMS, Trans-Am and Toyota Atlantic series on such a great weekend of racing.

"The issue with Miami is one of the problems with such a growing, successful series. With the great manufacturer involvement, new sponsorship attention and a very hot market, the Speed Touring Car Championship could average close to 50 cars per event in 2002." <pre> 2002 SCCA Pro Racing Speed Touring Car Schedule (Revised 2/26/02)
