STaSIS Race Cars All Finish In the Top 10 at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg, FL (April 2, 2006) - STaSIS Motorsports had their strongest team finish ever with all three cars finishing in the top 10. Chip Herr in the #17 Qvale/STaSIS Audi A4 finished in 4th, Jeff Courtney in the #99 MPI Coin/Karavan/Badger Audi A4 ended in 7th and Baker's #18 Fred Baker Audi Audi A4. Rewarding Courtney's on-track battles for his final position, he was given the Piloti Rookie of the Race award.
In addition to the drivers skill behind the wheel, they were all lucky to emerge from the standing start melee that took out 5 cars before turn one. Herr rocketed ahead of the fracas 4 spots putting him in 3rd by the exit of turn 1. Courtney and Baker also had good launches moving up to 8th and 13th respectively. After a 4 lap caution to clean up the front straight, the race was back underway.
Herr fought hard with Kleinubing for third and held him off for 8 laps before he managed to slip by. Herr remained in 4th until the end of the race racking up enough points to put him 4th in the point standings.
Courtney endured a hard battle with James Clay and Brandon Davis. Racing more like a veteran than rookie, Courtney whittled way at both competitors ending up the battle's victor to finish in 7th.
Typical of Baker's smooth driving style, he maintained a steady pace, picking off competitors one by one. By lap 25 he was inside the top 10 and by lap 27, 2 laps from the checkered flag, Baker made one last pass to finish in 9th.
Watch the race rebroadcast on SPEED TV, Wednesday, April 5th, 2006 at 12pm Eastern Daylight Time. The STaSIS Audi trio will race next at Mid-Ohio, May 19-20.
