Martinelli Returns to Road Atlanta for SPEED World Challenge this Weekend

BRASELTON, Ga. -- Jason Martinelli clearly remembers the first time he raced at Road Atlanta, earning his first two career victories less than a year after graduating from racing school. When Martinelli returns for this weekend's SPEED World Challenge Touring Car race, he hopes to be at the front once again.

Martinelli will be driving the No. 29 Tecmark BMW 330Ci in the 50-minute Touring Car race on Saturday, April 16.

The Roxbury, Connecticut resident graduated from the Skip Barber Racing School in 2001. Less than a year later, Martinelli earned his first two victories while competing in "The Mitty," Historic Sportscar Racing's popular annual race at Road Atlanta.

Martinelli is looking forward to returning to a track that holds such good memories for him. "I love that track!" he enthused. "It's one of my favorites. I've grown a lot as a driver since I was there before, so I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do there in the BMW."

During the Touring Car season opener at Sebring International Raceway last month, Martinelli showed his potential when he went from 18th to 11th in just two laps. He had more cars in his sights before contact with another car sent him to the pits. The lost time dropped him back in the results, but it gave Martinelli confidence about round two at Road Atlanta.

"There will be a lot more lapped cars since Road Atlanta is smaller," he commented. "I'm not worried about the traffic, though. I like the bumper to bumper racing. It should be a fun race. We showed how competitive we can be at Sebring, so now it's time to get the results."

Qualifying for the Touring Car race will be held on Saturday, April 16, from 11:00 -- 11:20 am EDT. The SPEED World Challenge Touring Car race will get the green light later that same day, at 4:00 pm. When the checkered flag comes out 50 minutes later, Martinelli hopes to be at the front in the blue No. 29 Tecmark BMW.

Martinelli is sponsored by Intermix Cement Corporation, JJ Snacks and Good Hill Mechanical Contractors, Inc.
