Cunningham Tops Afternoon Practice at Road America
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (Aug. 8, 2008) -- Wisconsin's own Peter Cunningham entered the fastest lap in Friday afternoon practice for Round Eight of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Championship, part of the Road Race Showcase at Road America. Teammate Eric Curran, of East Hampton, Mass., was second fastest in the session, followed by Jim Daniels, of Germantown, Tenn.
Lapping the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course located just down the road from his team's race shop, Milwaukee's Cunningham led the second of two practice sessions with a lap of 2:28.754 (97.965 mph). Driving the No. 42 Acura/RealTime/Eibach/Red Line Oil Acura TSX, Cunningham was reveling in the home track experience.
"It's always fun to be at Road America and be so close to home and see everyone up here," Cunningham said. "We're happy that things are going well thus far, but we understand that tomorrow and Sunday are the days that pay the money, so we're not too excited yet.
"The car feels good. We made a good change in the morning. I'm happy with it and the car's ready to go."
The afternoon time was a bit slower than Cunningham's morning time, a 2:28.608 (98.062 mph), which put him fourth on the combined practice sheets.
