Max Angelelli sets the fastest lap for Saturday afternoon's race

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario - The General Motors' Cadillac CTS-V racing team will start Saturday afternoon's race from the pole position after Max Angelelli set the fastest lap in Saturday morning qualifying. The Cadillacs will compete in two races this weekend for the Speed World Challenge GT Championship; today's qualifying determines the grid for this afternoon's race. Another qualifying session will be held tomorrow for Sunday afternoon's race.

"This was a good start to what will be an important weekend for us," said David Spitzer, program manager for the Cadillac CTS-V race car. "Max did a great job and now we are ready to focus on the race. Ron Fellows had an excellent lap and I know he wanted to have another go, but we need to save our tires for the race. That's where the points are."

Trailing Audi by five points in the Manufacturers' title hunt, the three factory Cadillacs hope to score precious points towards a 2004 championship trophy. Angelelli's time will ensure Cadillac a top starting position and the team feels confident for this afternoon's race.

"I'm very happy with qualifying," said Angelelli, driver of the #16 Cadillac CTS-V. "I struggled, like everyone, with the traffic but luckily at the end I put together a lap by myself. Our car is pretty good on this track and I'm looking forward to the race."

Round 6 of the Speed GT begins at 4:00 p.m. EDT this afternoon. The team will qualify again on Sunday morning for Round 7, held later on Sunday afternoon. Both races will air on Speed Channel on Sunday, August 15 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. EDT.
