Elder earns Hard Charger Award at Mosport

Christian Elder pushed his Great Clips Mazda Protégé forward 18 positions during the running of the SPEED World Challenge race at Mosport International Raceway, Toronto, Canada, on Saturday earning him a 19th place finish and the Sunoco Hard Charger award.

"I was really disappointed qualifying 37th," said Elder, "but the crew gave me a great car to race. It was really fun passing all those cars."

Elder had moved up to 23rd position when the field had its only full course caution with three laps to go. "The caution at the end really helped. It put me in a position to get four more cars that I wouldn't have been able to catch if it had stayed green."

Crew chief Troy Benner was pleased with the race results. "We softened the rear sway bar and added a some more wing angle for the race. It made a big difference. Every time I looked up from my chart, Christian was passing another car. I think we can take a lot of this information and carry it on to Lime Rock next week."

Elder has finished 19th in each of the first two SPEED World Challenge events and sits 17th in the point standings.

The Mosport race will be televised Saturday, May 24 at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) on SPEED Channel.
