ELKHART LAKE, Wis. -- Pole sitter Mike Galati led from start to finish for the second consecutive week to win the fifth round of the SCCA SPEED GT Championship this afternoon at Elkhart Lake. Galati, who completely dominated last week's race the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, out ran Johannes van Overbeek and Peter Cunningham into the first turn and then simply drove away from the rest of the 21-car field en route to picking up his third win in five races.

"The Audi was fantastic off the line," explained Galati. "When I saw Peter and Johannes racing side-by-side, I just put my head down and kept on driving as fast as I could."

As Galati pulled away, Cunningham moved into second with Jeff McMillin and van Overbeek lurking close behind him. Although van Overbeek managed to work his way back up to second after falling to fourth, he couldn't catch the lightning quick Galati.

"I gifted Mike the start," said van Overbeek. "Once I got by Peter, I couldn't make up much ground. I was very much looking forward to a caution."

In the end, Cunningham claimed the final podium position after withstanding a spirited challenge from McMillin. Phil McClure finished fifth, followed by John Young, Derek Bell, David Farmer, Bob Miller, and Michael Culver.

With today's win, Galati has a 20 point lead over Cunningham in the chase for the SPEED GT Championship.

The SPEED GT Championship will return to action in two weeks in Washington, D.C.
