Championship points lead extends after podium finish

Mid Ohio Sportscar Course, OH - 08/12/2003 - Bill Auberlen stretched his lead in the Speed Touring Car Championship and Will Turner moved into fourth place overall after Sunday's round six event at Mid Ohio Sportscar Course in central Ohio. Both drivers improved on their starting positions as well with Auberlen finishing second and Turner sixth. A late-race charge from Auberlen could not boost him to the top spot. This is his third podium finish in a row behind the wheel of his Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs/Allshocks.com BMW 325i.

Auberlen started fourth but moved up one position on lap six and into second on the next lap and began his pursuit of first place. Despite 150lbs of extra weight - 85lbs more than anyone else - Auberlen advanced on the leader and didn't stop until the checkered flag. His second place finish opened up his lead in the Touring Car Championship to 60 points over Pierre Kleinubing.

Will Turner started ninth after the wet/dry qualifying session but was up to sixth on the second lap. He would finish there after a race-long battle with the BMW of Ken Dobson. Turner's finish ahead of Dobson and Roger Foo meant valuable points in the Championship and he now sits in a tie for fourth. Third place is only one point away and he trails second place by only nine points.

BMW retains the lead in the Manufacturer's Championship; twelve points ahead of rival Acura.
