MID OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE, OH - 06/23/2004 - Turner Motorsport pilots are in the thick of several points races as the team prepares for this weekend's event at the swift Mid Ohio racetrack. Bill Auberlen has a 20-point lead in the 2004 Championship from behind the wheel of car #1, a Turner Motorsport/H&R Springs/BMW of Watertown BMW 325i. Justin Marks is in fourth place and well positioned to strike at the top three. Dino Crescentini is among two other drivers in a tie for fifteenth but only a few points shy of the top ten.

Bill Auberlen will have to put in a super hero performance if he wants to stay on top of the overall points standings. The series rules add 75 pounds of ballast for each race win. Auberlen's car will have a 150lb burden (or 203 ears of Ohio's finest corn) after winning the first two races of the season. In addition, race officials issued a competition adjustment to all BMWs that will further stifle their performance.

Justin Marks has scored two top five finishes this year. He currently sits in fourth place in the overall standings - just four points back from second place. While a podium finish would be satisfactory, Marks has his sights set on a win and challenging his teammates for the Championship.

Dino Crescentini jumped out to an early lead in the Touring Car Rookie of the Year race when he finished ninth in the season-opening race at Sebring. A damaged wheel/tire forced a pit stop in the last round at Lime Rock and he missed out on scoring points. With his speed he should be a factor for a top ten finish at Mid Ohio but he admits the greater restrictor will be a hindrance.

The Turner Motorsport BMWs are prepared with the support of H&R Springs, BMW of Watertown (CT), Sunoco Race Fuels, Red Line Oil, OZ Wheels, Piloti Driving Shoes, Meguiar's, and Hot Tomatoes Restaurant and Bar.

This will be the third round of the 2004 SPEED Touring Car Championship. Practice gets underway on Friday morning. Qualifying and the race are on Saturday at 10:40am and 4:40pm, respectively.

The SPEED Channel will be showing this race the following day (this Sunday!) at 12:00pm.
