Points and Podium at Mid-Ohio

Lexington, Ohio (August 9, 2010) - Randy and his #6 K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 team traveled to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course circuit this weekend for the World Challenge GT Championship doubleheader knowing that they had their work cut out for them. The current rules have restricted the Volvos to more weight and less acceleration to compensate for the Volvos' all-wheel drive traction advantage and even the playing field for all the cars. With Randy's added rewards weight of 150 lbs, they knew Mid-Ohio's straightaways would be more difficult. On Friday, Randy qualified the Volvo for both races in fifth place with only .16 of a second separating the top five cars. Teammate Andy Pilgrim qualified third. In Saturday's race, Randy finished in seventh place with Andy in ninth. The K-PAX team worked hard, with improvements in every session, and Randy was first in speed in the Sunday morning practice session. Later on in the race, the two Volvos finished on the podium, with Randy in third and Andy in second!

"What a difference a day makes. Same track, same weather, same cars...very different result. We were off earlier in the weekend but our K-PAX team made adjustments and kept improving the cars. In the first race, we weren't able to get away at the start. We would get passed on the straights and then get stuck behind that car in the corners where we were faster. At the end of the race, I got by Andy and finished in a hard fought seventh. The quality of our team is so strong. They kept working on the car and in Sunday's practice we were first! We got a better start and, with the Corvette and Porsche racing behind us, Andy and I were able to get away. This race had the largest field of the season which made for some crazy situations, lots of passing and fun. I got run off the road twice. I was racing ahead of Kuno Wittmer and, when I came up on his brother Nick in a slower car, Nick ran me off the road and Kuno passed by. Brother tag team action. Five laps later, Kuno tangled with slower traffic and was out of the race, gaining us 44 points."

"Andy finished second which is great for him and for the team. We got some good breaks and finished on a high note. I want to welcome a new partner on the K-PAX cars. Volvo's "Safe + Secure Coverage Plan" is now on our rear quarter panels and offers a 5 years, 60,000 mile warranty on all new cars with many other perks. I also want to thank my personal sponsors, WeatherTech, ChaseCam, saferacer.com, Team Janica Racing and Prairie Hills Motorsport Club, who continue to support and improve my racing career."

Randy has extended both his Drivers' Championship lead over Kuno Wittmer to 146 points but the Manufacturers' Championship lead for Volvo has been cut to just three points with the Porsche win. The Optima Batteries Mid-Ohio Grand Prix Presented by GameStreamer will be televised on August 28 at 4:30 PM on Versus and will re-air on September 3rd at 4:30 AM. Randy's next World Challenge race will be another doubleheader at VIRginia International Raceway, September 10-12. Randy Pobst Racing is supporting The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation and their Energy For Life walk-a-thon that will take place September 11 in Buffalo, NY.
