Lexington Ohio (July 21, 2007): Doug Peterson and Lou Gigliotti qualified their Corvettes 5th and 6th for Sunday's Round 7 of SCCA Pro Racing's SPEED World Challenge GT Championship Series here at Mid-Ohio Raceway in Lexington Ohio as both drivers eclipsed the existing GT qualifying record.
Early in the session Lou Gigliotti recorded a time that had his LG Pro Long Tube Headers Chevy Corvette C6 back in 8th position which just wasn't going to get it done. Lou came into the pits and after some changes by his son and crew chief Louis Gigliotti he improved slightly moving up to the 5th position.
Moments later his LGM teammate Doug Peterson bettered that lap to move his 3 Dimensional Services Chevy Corvette into the 5th position.
Not to be out done Gigliotti countered with his best lap of 1:26.281 getting the #28 Corvette back into 5th. But hole on Lou Doug dug down and reeled off a 1:26.147 a lap later to salt away the 5th spot for good.
Doug Peterson got out of his yellow Corvette and with a slow shake of his head said that he felt that he should have done a little better today.
"There was a little bit of traffic which really wasn't that big a problem because I tried to drive around it," Peterson said. "We had pretty much the same setup as yesterday but we were just a tick off. I'm waiting for the car and I can see the millionths of a second go by.
"Our setup is really close but we can only work with what we have. We are giving up some horsepower because of the sequential gear box and I'm not sure it is worth it. We'll see."
"We're 6th," said Lou Gigliotti from the seat of his LG Pro Long Tube Headers Chevy Corvette after Mid-Ohio qualifying. "We gave it all we had.
"I think the track did get better as the session went along. If a guy was smart a guy would have waited and gone out with fresh tires on a nice clean track but none of us are that smart."
"The times were good, they broke the track record by a ton, we broke the record, so the track is definitely faster than last year but we weren't fast enough. The story is that they added 50 pounds to us and took away horsepower so how are you going to deal with that."
The LGM Chevy Corvettes of Doug Peterson and Lou Gigliotti will start on the 4th row and take on the tough SPEED World Challenge GT competition as Round 7 will go green on Sunday July 22nd at 5:05 PM EDT.
