IMSA GT3 CHALLENGE POINTS LEADER IMERY TO DRIVE 2ND FARNBACHER LOLES SPEED GT PORSCHE
June 29, 2005-Danbury, CT -- Farnbacher Loles Racing of Danbury, Connecticut has tapped Venezuelan native Ricardo Imery to drive a 2nd Porsche GT3 Cup car as Wolf Henzler's teammate in the SCCA Speed World Challenge GT series. Imery, the current points leader in the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Michelin, was offered the ride after back-to-back strong performances in the first 2 IMSA races at Atlanta and Mid-Ohio.
Said Farnbacher Loles principal Greg Loles, "Ricardo impressed us immediately. Even in his first test with the team in a car he had never driven before, he was very fast and showed excellent control. He has been a real standout in the GT3 Cup Challenge. We are certainly very pleased to have Ricardo stay with our team and be able to step up to the next level like this. We had been planning on adding a 2nd car to our Speed World effort and we believe Ricardo will be an excellent teammate for Wolf. In addition to his obvious driving talents, he is also a very warm and likeable guy."
Ricardo was clearly aware of the opportunity presented. "It is an honor to run with Wolf in Speed GT. This is a very competitive series and while I realize I am a rookie, I believe we can make a good showing. The Farnbacher Loles team has proven to me they know how to prepare a winning car. I'm looking forward to racing against this extremely talented field." Ricardo's car, the Cavenas C.A. Venezolana De Ascensores Farnbacher Loles Porsche GT3 Cup, carries sponsorship of Cavenas, the leading elevator company in Venezuela. Cavenas has been backing Ricardo for many years and feels he has a solid shot at a professional championship. His teammate Wolf Henzler, drives the Applied Materials Farnbacher Loles Porsche GT3 Cup.
The IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge was created as a vehicle for amateur racers to compete and hone their skills and provide a bridge for some to professional road racing. While the expectations were in place that some talented drivers would emerge and move on to pro racing, no one expected the series to bear fruit this quickly.
While both the Speed World Challenge car and the IMSA GT Cup Challenge car are based on the Porsche GT3 Cup, there are a few differences, mostly in the higher engine output in Speed GT and the suspension components. In either set-up, the GT3 Cup is an impressive racecar. "Ricardo had never raced a sportscar before Atlanta, never mind a Porsche Cup car. The fact that he could jump in one of these cars and immediately be both quick and comfortable, speaks volumes about Ricardo's immense talent and also what a great racecar the GT3 Cup is. We congratulate Ricardo on this exciting opportunity and we wish him continued success," said Uwe Brettel, President of Porsche Motorsport North America.
Ricardo's first race will be at historic Lime Rock Park, in the rolling hills of Northwestern Connecticut. The race will be held the weekend of July 1-2 as part of the ALMS weekend. All Speed GT races are televised on Speed Channel.
