WINCHESTER, Va. (March 8, 2003) -- International racing veteran and television commentator Hans Stuck will drive a third BMW M3 for BMW Team PTG in the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT event at Sebring (Fla.) International Raceway on March 14, 2003.
Stuck, of Austria, winner of five American Le Mans Series races for BMW Team PTG from 1999-2001 and three-time 12 Hours of Sebring champion, will join Bill Auberlen and Boris Said in the team's first entry into the World Challenge Series.
Stuck will drive the McMillin Motorsport BMW M3, which Jeff McMillin, the 1997 Speedvision Cup and 2000 Speedvision GT champion, drove to fifth in the GT point standings last year.
"It's great to have Hans joining us in Sebring," said BMW Team PTG owner Tom Milner. "Hans has been part of the team for many years and we're happy to have him back. He won the race for us in the Petit Le Mans event in 2001, our last sports-car race, and there have been many other times when Hans has pulled the hot iron out of the fire for us. We know he's capable of doing that again."
"Hans Stuck has an outstanding track record as a driver and has also been a valuable BMW brand ambassador and spokesman for over two decades," added Tom Salkowsky, Motorsports and M Brand Manager for BMW of North America, LLC. "Some of his best work has been behind the wheel of a racing BMW, and we could not be more pleased to have him back driving a BMW M3 for BMW Team PTG."
The 2003 SPEED World Challenge Series opens on March 14, at Sebring International Raceway, in Sebring, Fla. The 50-minute race begins at 4:25 p.m. Speed Channel is scheduled to air the SPEED GT Championship race on Saturday, March 29, at 5 p.m. ET.
