Galati and Pobst Team Up With K-PAX Racing
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (Feb. 16, 2007) - K-PAX Racing announced today that Michael Galati and Randy Pobst will join forces to make a run at the SPEED GT Manufacturers' Title for Porsche Motorsports in SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge.
Michael Galati, the only five-time World Challenge Champion, and Randy Pobst, 2003 SPEED GT Champion and two-time class winner in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, will drive two new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars for K-PAX Racing in 2007.
"Both Michael and Randy are as giddy as two kids in a candy store to be back in SPEED GT with two new Porsches and with 3R Racing doing the development and track side support," K-PAX Team Owner Jim Haughey said.
Galati started five SPEED GT races in 2006 driving the Volvo S60R, finishing third in his first start of the season at Mid-Ohio and capturing Volvo's first series-win at a rain soaked Mosport, where he nearly lapped the entire field.
Pobst drove in two SPEED GT races in 2006. At Road Atlanta he climbed all the way to eighth after starting 27th and he won the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca when he made a pass for the lead in the final corner, which resulted in the closest finish in SPEED GT history. The win also helped Porsche capture the 2006 SPEED GT Manufacturers' Championship. Pobst will continue to race a Mazda 6 in SPEED Touring Car for 2007 as well.
"Our goal this year is to win the Manufacturers' Championship for Porsche Motorsports," Haughey said. "SPEED World Challenge is a very competitive series with strong teams and to do well we need competitive cars, good drivers, and an experienced crew. We're lucky enough to have all three with the Porsche 911 GT3s, Michael, Randy and 3R Racing."
Jim Haughey started K-PAX Racing after working with AtSpeed Motorsports in 2006. He has been in the retail repair side of the automotive business since 1974 and has owned and operated Scandia Auto Service for the past 18 years. He has long been a racing enthusiast and World Challenge fan.
