Henzler Heads Up SCCA SPEED GT Practice at CENTRIX Financial Grand Prix of Denver
DENVER (Aug. 12, 2005) -- Back in April, German Wolf Henzler talked about his love for street courses after posting the fastest SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT practice times at the Round Two Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
At the ninth-round CENTRIX Financial Grand Prix of Denver Presented by PacifiCare on Friday, it was much the same story for Henzler as he once again proclaimed his affection for street courses after taking the top spot in practice with a 1:15.974 (78.516 mph) in his No. 55 Applied Materials/Farnbacher Loles Porsche 911 Cup, ahead of Cadillac's Max Papis, of Miami, Fla., and Robin Liddell, of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Henzler led both 25-minute sessions and finished well ahead of Papis, posting the dual sessions' best time on the last lap of the afternoon. Papis flirted with the top spot in both sessions before finishing second with a 1:16.626 (77.848 mph) in his No. 16 XM/Mobil 1/Motorola/Bose/Cadillac CTS-V.
"In general, I like street courses very much," Henzler said. "In Europe, in the past, we drove a lot on street courses, so I don't have a lot of problem finding the race lines very quickly. I did a good lap after we put on new tires in this last session, and it was perfect for me."
Liddell gave Porsche two of the top three spots after practice, recording his best time (1:16.650) in the No. 66 AXA Financial/PFAFF Porsche 911 Cup during the final session.
Papis' teammate, Andy Pilgrim, of Del Ray Beach, Fla., gave Cadillac two slots in the top five as he placed fourth in the No. 8 XM/Mobil 1/Motorola/Bose Cadillac CTS-V, while rookie Lawson Aschenbach, of Gaithersburg, Md., was fifth in the King Auto/Farnbacher Loles Porsche 911 Cup in his SPEED World Challenge debut.
Qualifying for Sunday's Round Nine SPEED GT race is scheduled for Saturday at 12:20 p.m. (MDT).
