BimmerWorld Enters 2008 World Challenge Season with New Names and Faces
New staff and new sponsors join the BMW E90 Touring Car team
With an encouraging 2007 season behind them, Dublin, Virginia's BimmerWorld Racing team has spent the off-season filling key roles within the team and adding a strong list of new sponsors and partners to the team for 2008.
"Racing is a sport that requires us to keep growing and improving," BimmerWorld owner and driver James Clay said, "and after the tastes of success we had last year, we've been working overtime to strengthen our team and our partners for the new season."
Notable additions to the blue BMW's are GearWrench (www.GearWrench.com) , the team's Official Tool Supplier, and Alpinestars, (www.AlpineStars.com) supplier of racing safety apparel for BimmerWorld drivers James Clay, Seth Thomas, and Nick Esayian. Esayian, driving the #34 BMW E90, joins BimmerWorld after many successful seasons with RealTime Racing.
With a full-time three car racing program, Clay's technicians need to work faster than ever to prepare the #34, #36, and #38 BMW E90's between on-track sessions. "GearWrench is a perfect addition to the BimmerWorld team--their line of tools will help our crew get our cars ready faster and more efficiently than ever before."
GearWrench tools will be used on the BimmerWorld racing cars, in the shop on customer cars, and used on pitlane during each SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car event.
The BimmerWorld drivers will be sporting their own official 'gear' from Alpinestars, the makers of the highest quality Nomex racing firesuits. Alpinestars suits are worn by top drivers in Formula One, NASCAR, MotoGP, the WRC, and now, SPEED World Challenge with BimmerWorld. Clay, Thomas, and Esayian will be using the Alpinestars 'GP Tech' suits this season, along with racing shoes, gloves, and Nomex underwear. "They are incredibly comfortable for an off-the-shelf suit--they fit like they're custom tailored to me," noted Clay. The full line of Alpinestars racing products is available from www.Bimmerworld.com.
To meet the increased demands for street and track car services, BimmerWorld has added two new staff members that, like the rest of the crew, will focus on customer cars during the week and tend to the BMW E90 World Challenge racecars on the weekend.
Finally, Wayne Yawn was added as BimmerWorld's new race engineer for 2008. Yawn, a sportscar veteran with design and engineering skills earned from the GrandAm series and with the famed Kudzu Le Mans-style racecar manufacturer.
"I'm really excited about our growth--with our new sponsors, our new crew members, and a formidable driver lineup, we're preparing for our most aggressive season ever in 2008," commented Clay. "I can't wait for the season opener at Sebring!"
BimmerWorld's season starts on Friday, March 14th, at the historic Sebring track with round one of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car championship. Follow the team's progress at www.bimmerworldracing.com, and from live timing and scoring at www.world-challenge.com.
