Volvo Victorious!

Joliet, IL (July 26, 2009) - After hitting many speed bumps during the Volvo Racing development year, Randy drove his #1 K-PAX/3R Racing Volvo S60 to the top of the podium in the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT Championship race at Autobahn Country Club. Randy started the week off strong, dominating both practices and qualifying second. Although he was slow off the line going into Turn One, he was quickly able to pass the top two cars in the next corner. He remained in the lead for the majority of the race while many of his competitors had incidents and ailments, finishing in first! Teammate Andy Pilgrim finished in fourth.

"We won! Our Volvo was the best handling car out there this week. Autobahn is really the best track for us. Its tight corners are a big advantage for our all-wheel drive Volvos. I was very disappointed to miss the pole after being so fast in practice. I also had a less than stellar start and fell back to third. The car bogged at the start and restarts which is something we still have to work on. But after the start, everything seemed to go our way. I dived-bombed the second place Porsche in Turn Two and then the first place car bobbled and I got the lead. We got hit from behind by Dino Crescentini during a big crash but it didn't hurt our car. Most of our closest competitors had problems which helped us and nobody was really able to challenge us on speed. The good breaks just went our way at a track that was perfect for us."

"Our Volvo ran beautifully and reliably and was the fastest car. All the hard work by the K-PAX/3R Racing team really paid off. They did a great job! I would like to thank David MacNeil and his family who graciously allowed me to stay with them and borrow their BMW M3 for transportation this week. I would also like to thank my personal sponsors Team Janica Racing, WeatherTech, Prairie Hills Motorsport Club, ChaseCam, and saferacer.com. Many of them are based in the Chicago area and I was glad that they were there to see this victory. Next week I will be traveling to Denver to help celebrate the grand opening of High Plains Raceway. My 3R Racing team has been involved in the formation of the club racing track, which is about 60 miles east of Denver."

The Autobahn World Challenge GT race will be broadcast Tuesday, August 18 at 2 PM EST on SPEED. Between all the crashes and Randy's win, it promises to be an exciting race. Randy's next SPEED World Challenge GT race will be August 7-9 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The next race for Randy in the KONI Challenge will be September 18-20 at Miller Motorsports Park.
