Audi S4 Competition to Portland
Auburn Hills, Mich., -- Michael Galati, current points leader, and teammate Derek Bell head into round six of the SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision World Challenge GT series race to be run at Portland International Raceway this weekend.
Galati, driving the Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition, was able to extend his lead over second place in the Speedvision GT driver's points standings to 16 after his fourth place finish at Sears Point. Derek Bell, driving the Legends of Motorsport/Audi S4 Competition, jumps three places to 12th in the driver's standings with 58 points, on the heels of his sixth place finish in Wine Country.
The 1.94-mile, 12-turn Portland circuit should see a strong showing by Audi S4 Competition. The track features several high-speed turns that are taken quickly with the S4 quattro drive. The famous Festival Curves will be key to good lap times. "The track could be an advantage for us. Portland is a mid-range track. It is not too technical. Everyone can drive down the straight-away. We need to get a good set-up under the car. A good handling car will be the difference," said Galati.
"I last raced at Portland with Al Holbert in the late 80s. I haven't raced there with the chicane or Festival Curves. I have mixed feelings about the track. There is a long corner coming onto the pit straight. It will be key to get a good launch off the last corner to be competitive going into the chicane. It shouldn't be a bad circuit for our car," said Derek Bell.
"Portland should be a good track for us. Michael is doing a good job to place as high as possible when the track does not suit our car. Those are the performances that win championships. Derek equaled his best finish ever at Sears, so I think we have him on track to be very competitive for the remainder of the season. His top finishes will be important for us in the manufacturers' point race," said Rod Bymaster, manager, Audi Sport North America.
The Speedvision GT race from Portland will be televised on Friday, August 24, at 9:00 p.m. EDT on Speedvision. <pre> Speedvision GT Driver's Standings: 1. Michael Galati Audi S4 Competition 170 2.
