DE PHILLIPPI READY FOR TROIS-RIVIERES STREET CIRCUIT CHALLENGE
Rookie of the Year title contender seeking to provide JDC MotorSports with second consecutive victory in Quebec
TROIS-RIVIERES, QUE. (August 12, 2010) - The pursuit of Rookie of the Year honors and a first series win resumes for Connor De Phillippi this weekend (August 14-15), when the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear travels to Trois-Rivieres, Que., for Round 10 on the historic street circuit. For the highly-rated MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Driver, the first of two series visits 'North of the Border' will be the opportunity to once again showcase his talents behind the wheel on a challenging track he's never raced at previously.
After a brief two week break from series competition, De Phillippi is more than ready to return to the cockpit of his No. 11 MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development/Justice Brothers/Sparco/Rock View Farms/Oakley/Power Balance/Redline Athletics/Red Line Oil JDC MotorSports entry in Canada. The California teenager, despite having never seen or raced on the challenging street circuit in Trois-Rivieres, is confident that he can build on his recent top-five in Illinois, and challenge for top honors in Round 10. Given De Phillippi showed good speed and finished an impressive fifth in his inaugural Star Mazda street race during Round Two in St. Petersburg, Fla., combined with the fact his JDC MotorSports squad won last year's edition of the race, as well as finished third, the stage is set for a great run by the talented American in Quebec.
"We are heading into this weekend with some new ideas that I'm really confident with," commented De Phillippi. "Our team did well last year here in Canada, so we will have some good data to go by. Our focus will be on producing a strong podium result, and as long as things go as planned I am sure we can achieve that."
De Phillippi will get his first chance to drive the Trois-Rivieres street circuit on Friday (August 13) via an early evening 30-minute practice session. The reigning Skip Barber National series champion will return to his MAZDASPEED Motorsports-backed JDC MotorSports car on Saturday morning with a 40-minute practice run, followed by qualifying for Round 10 of the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear at 2:35 p.m. local time. After a 15-minute morning warm-up session on Sunday morning (August 15), the entire field will line-up for the traditional standing start, with the 45-minute race slated to begin at 1 p.m. local time. De Phillippi enters the event third in the Rookie of the Year chase and seventh in the overall standings.
