Northwest Autosport Signs Phil Fogg Jr. and Eric Freiberg for 2007 Star Mazda Championship

February 22, 2007. Portland, Oregon. Northwest Autosport Team Manager Michael Hernandez announced today that Northwest Autosport has signed Phil Fogg Jr and Eric Freiberg to compete in the 2007 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear.

Fogg, from Wilsonville, Oregon, enters his third season with Northwest Autosport behind the wheel of the #29 Consonus Health Services Pro Formula Mazda. Running a limited schedule in 2006, Fogg finished twenty-third overall in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear and finished fourth in the Expert Series for drivers aged 30-44 with six podium finishes in the class including the class victory in the 2006 season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Twenty year old Freiberg, from Homer Glen, Illinois, will climb into the #3 Northwest Autosport Pro Formula Mazda driven by Ryan Justice to third place in the 2006 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear with victories at Mid-Ohio and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Freiberg looks to carry on the winning ways after capturing the 2007 WKA National Championship as well as four circle-track karting championship. The 2004 graduate of Lockport Township High School has also participated in Skip Barber races and the 2006 SCCA Central Division Formula Mazda Championship.

"We are very pleased to announce these two drivers for our 2007 campaign and look forward to continued success," Hernandez explained. "Phil is consistently quick and is a threat to capture the Expert Series title and we feel the Eric can climb right into the car and pick up where Ryan left off at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. With Sebring right around the corner we will continue our pre-season testing program and feel we'll be ready to go at Sebring where Ryan put the car on the front row in 2006."

Based in Milwaukie, Oregon, Northwest Autosport is one of the top teams participating in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear, which will feature twelve races across the United States and Canada supporting the American Le Mans Series, ChampCar and the GrandAm series.
